Well after six and a half years of reliability it is time to say goodbye to my 2001 Weekend Auto. It's a shame really, the engine sound fine and doesn't use oil, the auto box is great and the body looks pretty good It drives really well but it isn't going to pass the MOT next month without more money being spent on it than it is worth.
Local breaker says £150 to take it away, if anyone wants to match that let me know. It is in North Norfolk and SORNed at the moment, just waiting to get private plate off it before it goes.
Thanks to the forum for the bits of advice over the years and good luck to all those I have helped.

Sorry to see you go, and thanks for your valued input:)

£150 is fair, as scrap values are falling..,
1.6 petrol from memory..what are the MOT issues..?,

A bit of welding needed underneath, the abs is playing up (Was lucky last year, the abs light was on when I drove it to the mot but went off when the tester moved it into the bay) also play in the big bushes on the back axle and a few of the ball joints have split covers.

Shame really because it drives really well and the first twenty years of my driving experience was before abs so no problem there as far as I am concerned, unfortunately Mr VOSA isn't of the same mind:(

Here is a link to a photo of the trims, if anyone wants to make an offer for the wheels and trims let me know, the wheels are 6.5j which is wider than standard with 195/60 x 14 Marshall Matrac tyres all with about 6mm of tread.
They would have to come and swap over their wheels so the beast can still be loaded by the scrap merchant.

Well it has gone!

A few facts

2001 Weekend 1.6 Auto.

Bought in October 2008 for £1200 at 54k miles
Sold to breaker May 2015 for £100 at 140k miles

Average yearly mileage 13230 miles
Depreciation £169 per annum

Costs over and above normal service items: 1 thermostat, 1 rear brake pipe, 1 front flexi pipe.

AWESOME!!!

I now have a very nice SAAB 9-5 Estate, 2.2 diesel Auto, all the toys and full SAAB history, if it turns out as reliable and cheap to own as the Marea I will be very happy.

So it's goodbye from me I just hope the SAAB forum is as good as this one.

Yes it's a shame to lose the car, but actually there's no need to scrap these cars because of the rear subframe bushes any more....

You can now get from FirstLine / Borg & Beck the front and rear replacement bushes for a reasonable price (around £25 each on Ebay).

Part nos are FSM2026 (BSM..) for the front and FSM2029 (BSM..) for the rear.

They also do the bolt / bearing kit for the swinging bit...

Supposedly the same parts for Marea / Tipo / Brava / Bravo etc.
