General Adding to my collection

General Adding to my collection

After some exuberant driving, I've come to the conclusion the rear suspension has had it, going over some undulating road conditions with any rear passengers results in a horrendous bang as some part of the rear hits the road.
It's like the suspension. Completely bottoms out, the springs are probably weak from age and the dampers I suspect are completely shot.
Got a trip to Essex coming up this weekend so won't be able to do anything to any of the projects :(

If your back suspension is crashing then have a really good look at the rear subframe mounting bushes - they do deteriorate and lose the rubber packing. This used to be a real pain to fix and caused a lot of the Tipo / Brava family cars to be scrapped after 10 years or so. Fortunately Firstline / Borg & Beck do replacements now (a bit late in the day....) - you can get them on ebay from a few places for around £20 - £25 each.

I know of a guy that sell poly rear subframe bushes - a friend of a friend got some for his alfa 155 which as i understand it will fit the bravo/brava/marea also.

Or you could be lazy and cut "washers" from 1.5cm thick rubber sheet like I did.

There's a guy on fccuk that supplies poly bushes for the coupe. I'll have a good poke around there next weekend.
I'm off to have a play in a delorean this weekend whoop.

The wagon did 326 faultless miles yesterday, took a trip down to North Weald airfield to spend ten minutes in a delorean. It was an experience that the Mrs had got me for Xmas. We were very disappointed with the actual experience, having paid 130 quid and driven 160 odd miles to arrive at a very disorganised event where you are met by people that have no clue about cars.
You get to drive round a very small circuit at a sedentary pace, not allowed to get out of second gear. The car seemed a little unhealthy to be honest. Ten mins later you were done.

Anyway I guess it's not really about driving a delorean as they're a heavy poor handling and slow car to lug around. It's a car Ive always liked since I was a kid and I'd still have one in my collection any day.

The diesel wagon was still showing it's got the goods, having shown a lot of new cars a clean pair of heels, it really does drive well with the coupe bits on it :)
Okay it's only 130bhp but various tussles with modern BMWs showed it can still keep up (almost).
I adore the way it gets so easily looked down on by other drivers. "My Kia is brand new so must be far quicker than your old.......oh you went"

Love it, but needs more power.

to be fair i get this alot in the bravo hgt - people always look amazed that you are still right with them, infact generally sat there waiting for them to pull back in cause they are really slow compared to the old girl. And had countless people comment things like 'oooh you don't see bravo's often anymore, what is it a 1.2?'
