Hi,

I have a problem with my Marea Weekend 125 td. Sometimes the lights of the handbrake and the abs light up. When i stop the car and restart the engine the problem is solved for a while, but after a couple of minutes the leds light up again. I went to the dealer who told me he couldn`t help because my car had a abs system of Bosch and not from Lucas??!! So i went to a Fiat specialist who succeeded to read the system (just by selecting another type marea). The problem has something to do with a valve-relay (in dutch kleppenelais). Now they say i need a new abs-unit (costs about 600 euro). My question is... Could it be possible that it`s just a relay somewhere in a fusebox. Is there anybody who had the same problem???

P.s Hope you all understand my writing. I`m dutch and my english is not very well.

I think the abs relays are in the engine bay. I can't remember whether they are the ones in front of the battery or near to the bulk head. I'll try to find out and post back.

On a practical side, If my abs ever stopped working I think I would just disconnect it anyway. Stopping on snow or ice with abs you might as well give up.

I have a customer in Nijmegen - they buy engines from my employer. They always apologise for poor English too yet their English is fantastic. You have nothing to worry about with us understanding your writing :)

Thank you for your reply and understanding my writing.

I searched also for this relay. In the driversmanual is also written about a fusebox near the battery. Though about my car there is no such like that. There is a fuse box on the left side near the front window (left when you stand at the front of de car), wich is full of fuses and relays, though according the manual there are just two fuses. I checked all off them. There where greasy cause a little oil leak from the fuelpump. I cleaned them but there is no result.

If it`s possible a want to know what the serialnumber is of this valve-relay. I hope it`s a component on it`s self and not a complete module.

The abs has to work because in the Netherlands is a requisite periodical inspection which says the abs has to work.

There are relays in the black metal box just in front of the battery. You need to unbolt the cover to get inside it. The air con compressor relay is in there too.

I'm surprised that your yearly test is so stringent on abs. My work colleage in Nijmegen drives a 16 year old micra with holes in the sills and duct tape holding the bottom of the passenger door on and it passed it's test a few months ago (much to his surprise)!

If it is the valve relay, this i can assure you is built inside the abs pump/ecu. I have come across fault before and replaced units for this fault before.
