Hi,

I am a newbie to this forum and only found it as I've just brought a Marea 2.0 20V HLX. I have brought a Marea and the problem with it was that it had been abused and nobody had changed the timing belt. I took the belt off using another guide thanks but to my horror found that the idler has collapsed!!

:bang:

I have gone to Fiat and brought another Idler but now the old one does not want to come off! I have got a 19mm spanner on it but it keeps on turning left but does not come any looser?

Has anybody had the same problem and if so how did they come around it?

Thanks in advance

It's ok I worked out that it was just taking a long time to undo.

:D

I undid it and opened the top engine mounting nearest the timing belt and used a scaffolding pole to push the engine aside. Manged to get the old one out and put the new one in also.

Need any help doing yours then post a reply.

PS don't forget to support your engine don't forget you've just taken out the supports!

Glad to hear you can do the idler as well, byt shifting the engine on its mounts. I'm about 18 months away from needing to do my wife's BravoHGT, & have looked at the 20v guide on this forum, wondering whether it was possible to remove the idler as well.
How much do you need to move the engine to get the old one out?

Cheers

OK have a look at the other guide

https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=24011

Then lift the engine with a jack until the top engine mount is fairley loose. The undo the bolt I think its a 16mm and then what I did was get my cousin to put a bar in between the mount and the chassis and with a bit of elbow grease and a bit of fiddling I managed to wangle the idler out. As the Haynes manual would say Fitting is the reverse of removing!

PS:- as I've said before make sure the engine is supported!!!

Any problems give us a shout!
