Hi

We have a split boot on the drive shaft joint, has anyone got experience of changing these and is it a :bang: of a job. We changed the outer cv boot on my honda prelude last year and that was a bit of of job involving alot of :bang: and quite a bit of  :yuck: so wondered if this was going to be the same.

I am getting the new boot later this week, so if no one post a reply we will post a comment as to how the job was!

I'll be assisting with this job....we're just trying to find out how the CV joint is held on.

On my old Uno Turbo it was a circlip holding the CV joint in place which was fairly simple. When we did the Prelude it was a wire ring locating the CV joint onto the shaft and you just tw@tted (northern term for hitting very hard :D ) the CV with a big mallet to get it off!

I can see the shaft will come off easily as it has a flange connection, it's just nice to know which way the CV comes off before getting started.

sorry, being dumb.yes the drive shaft on these is straight forward to take off.a word of caution though.when replaceing CV boots, emery the lip where the boot outer face sits.this tends to build up debris and rust.a job well done is a job properly done.that has been hammered into me for years.good luck.

Is it the outer boot?
There are two types of drive shafts one with lobes, one without that has a bolt on flange.
The gaiters are held on with the usual impossible to wotk with Fiat hose clips. I think both types have circlips.
If you want I can find a manual and email you a couple of scans.

This is the bolted flange jobbie. It's the inside one that has gone however we're doing them both at the same time as the boots are only £11 and £9 (genuine parts) and also as a bit of preventative maintenance. I'll probably just unbolt the flange and if I have enough room, take the inner CV off and then replace both boots and bolt it back on again. If access is tight, I'll take the full drive shaft out as I'm sure I have the correct socket for this job.
