Hi, first post so obviously having a bit of trouble

I recently bought a Marea Weekend 1.6 SX 100, 99 reg. Yesterday while driveing home I noticed the dreaded injector light was on along with a noticable drop in power, as though the car was running on three cylinders.

I checked the plugs and didn't really see anything wrong apart from being a bit sooty. Decided to change them anyhow which helped for a little while but this didn't last very long.

Upon examining the plugs I found that 2,3 and 4 were brownish/black indicating burn't fuel, however the 1st plug still looked new. Checked for a spark by earthing and turning the engine over, seems OK. My assumption is that probably there's no fuel getting into this cylinder. (I did bung a small bottle of redex injector cleaner into the fuel as well for good measure)

What can I do now ? What could be the cause ?

As you've probably guessed, I'm no mechanic and most probably won't be able to fix this but I wouldn't mind being a little bit more knowledgable so I won't be totally defenceless when confronting a garage.

Any help is much appreciated.

Tony

hi.
the injector earthing maybe faulty,so will not fire.check the feed to the injector.if ok,then replace injector.its a bit of a pig of a job,i would get it checked out on diagnostic.usually its no 4 injector on this engine that goes.incidently,in 1999,they changed the type of injector,so make sure you get the right one .order from your chassis/engine number.

Thanks for the advice.

It seems to have cleared itself, hope it stays that way. Maybe the injector cleaner did the trick.

Anyhow, I also bought a new fuel filter in my desperation without having the faintest clue how or where to fit it. I believe it's located near the fuel filler but how do I get at it ? Would it even be worthwhile bothering to fit it ?

thanks again, Tony

There should be a panel located in the top of the wheel arch liner near the filler. It's not a difficult job. Get a screwdriver, bolt or piece of dowel the same size as the pipe before you disconnect the fuel pipe. You can then clamp them in the pipe from the fuel tank to stop the fuel until you have finished.

yes,the filter is located close to the fuel tank.
the light will come back on.i would get it code read asap.then fix the problem.
