My marea 1.6sx has been idling erratically lately and after a visit to a Fiat dealer I am told that a valve is gone in the throttle body but its not available as a seperate part????? The charge for the pleasure of getting it sorted will be 600 Euro! Any experts out there with any other solution by any chance, the idling is fine most of the time just sometimes it revs itself and sometimes cuts out! Help??

Thanks Dave, I thought I might get a reply saying that it might be something that I could do myself , if its a factory job then I'll let them to it as no one around here has any spare throttle body for my model :(

You could try checking the throttle link adjustment just in case the garage missed a problem there and also take the solenoid off and give it a clean.
If you need I can scan in some info to help, just PM me your email.
Have you tried doing a search for 'auto breaker'. There are companies that will do a part search for you and then mail the parts out.

Dave, The garage have just rang and said that they will split the cost with me as a goodwill gesture, I now have to pay 300 Euro for a new throttle body , how does this sound to you?

Dave, the reason they dropped the price is that I said that I would not be paying 600 for it ! :) The car came with a warranty (engine and gearbox) which apparently does not cover the throttle body!!!

Its getting done on Friday so will let you know how it goes, thanks for your help as usual! (y)

Dave,

Got the new throttle body fitted last Friday and it is like a new engine, it idles perfectly and it seems to be more agile when pressing the accelerator, hopefully
this is not in my mind!! :)
