hi,hoping someone may be able to help!i own a 2000 marea weekend 1.6.16v, at most inopertune times i.e.going to work, leaving work,in any type of weather the engine will turn and turn and not start! however, if i push the car or tow it a short distance to jump it,as soon as i turn the key its alive!!!! its been in the dealer on the diagnostics twice with no fault found and have had the r.a.c. out about 5x!lots of head scratching is makin me bald an my missus is 5 days overdue so not the ideal time for it to play up!ANY feedback gratefully received!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thank you :bang:

When it does fail to start - is the key symbol on the dash on? If it is the immobiliser is not letting it start. The light should go off a moment after the key is in/turned.

I had this a couple of times the day before the battery died. Seems to be sensitive to battery voltage - get the battery checked by an auto electrician.

Mark.

hi markb thanks 4 the reply, had diag check done, garage said crank voltage, recommended new battery so i got one ,still doing it after that!got diag done 7/6/05 showed no faults!!!!!!!!!!!!!!aaaarrrrgggghhhhh! eh mr rac man said its not immobiliser, but coolant sensor under ht bloc, car wouldnt start and he disconnected sensor then it fired, didnt start later same day an i tried the sensor car still didnt work so cant be that!nearly bald and down to the knuckles................... :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

It sounds starter motor related.

Can you hear a clicking noise when you try to start the engine?

Can you get someone to check that current is getting to the starter motor solenoid when you turn the key.

Can you get someone to tap the motor when your trying to crank too.

Trying to think of what might be affected by moving the car

Got fuel supply? Not on dregs in tank? Fuel pump? Hear the pump?
Injector light going off when ignition on starting/ cranking? Smell of fuel at exhaust?

Have sparks? Is it even trying to go? Misfire? Backfire?
Check and see if the spark plugs are wet when you take them out after non starting? Soaking wet? Ignition problem. Immobiliser/coil/s
Engine crank sensor? Fouled up? Poor contact?

If you've got compresssion, correct fuel/air mixture and sparks and at the right time it's gotta go

Dodgy crank sensor can cause starting problems, although hard to know why it should affected by moving the car. Unless there is a dirty connection that gets shaken. Perhaps check/clean the wiring plug to the crank sensor, make sure that the sensor is securely mounted?

its got fuel, checked at end of fuel rail whilst crankin engine............ (n)

Oh yeah, just read the original post again (regarding the starter motor) !

When you turn the ignition on do you hear the fuel pump build up the pressure for a couple of seconds (ref deckchair 5)

have the crank speed sensor checked as well as the engine temp sensor as these may be faulty. Someone had a problem on the fiat bravo forum with a marea starting problem and this was the cause

cheers

hi where is this crank speed sensor cos haynes dont seem to know, thanks for all the suggestions guys, i might bingo it soon !p.s. young jamies doing great, a luv being a dad more than a fiat owner at the moment,he he!

I had the phasing censor behind the cambelt changed, and the problem was solved. I also had a somehow similar problem regarding the battery. But the difference is that with the censor problem the engine will turn but not start (like if no gas) regarding the battery problem it was just all dead.
But in both cases periodically.

can you get to the Crank sensor / Flywheel sensor from the top or the bottom of the car ?

Thanks.
