Hi peeps

I have a 2001 Weekend with a couple of problems on the tailgate, its been like it for over a year now and the wifes getting fed up of having to climb over the back seat every time we go shopping, yes its a lock problem..... However I think theres a bit more to mine!

1) My external handle is stuck in the up possition, I can pull it back but the handle does nothing when pushed, its as though the boot is locked, then it sticks in the up position, a can of WD40 didn't free it up either!

2) the Key just spins in the lock and does nothing, for a while it would unlock the boot only but now.... Nothing!

3) My central locking solonoid, when activated jumps to unlocked then back to locked (pushed out then pulls back in) thus staying locked, I can open the boot from inside but as I said the wife moans about having to climb over the back seat every time!

BTW I can recomend Momentum 99 fuel in the 1.6, mine runs like a dream on it and I have noticed an increase in the milage I get and there seems to be a little more power too...... Just ask the teenager I blew past in his 206 HDI off a rounabout the other night:devil:

OK time to disassemble the lock mechanism, dremel/similar recommended.

Since the handle is up, the central locking wont do anything with it, opening from the inside pulls direclty on the locks and bypasses the locking mechanism, sounds like the lever the handle pushes is also stuck up, pulling on the external handle wont help it.
The key thing could be caused by that but never looked it with mine (mine opened with scredriver/anything rotating the lock, fixed it in the first week of ownership)

Remove the plastic bit with the lock, unscrew the locking mechanism and put it aside.
Dremel on the handle where the hinge is and pull the pin along the grooves (not the one with the spring, it will be rusted, but try take out as little as possible, I cut a narrow groove and tapped the pin out).
Now you can carefully remove the handle. Sand the pins and use drillbit (i think it was 4mm, you want it loose) to enlarge the holes on the counterpart (image, epoxy together all broken bits).

I sawed the lockbarrel off and epoxied the hole with original metal plate from the lock (and glossy black after filler/wetsanding).
Take the lockingmechanism apart and sand the shafts. Image, use sandpaper/drillbit to enlarge the smaller hole above the barrel just a tiny bit, clean the other hole too, and flatten/remove one of the washers on it (and flatten the other hole too if it is too tight).

I also drilled new hole for the spring that pushes the lever down so it will be a bit stronger (you can see it in the picture above, dont remember which one it is).

Assemble the locking mechanism with waterproof grease, put the handle back with the pin and epoxy the pin (grease in the holes as these are first tings to rust).

Put all back together and see if it works.

Looks like somthing do be doing when the weather gets a bit better (don't have a garage!)
