Hello everybody!
I drive a 2001 (Y reg) Fiat Marea Weekend.

Disclaimer: I am a total dumb*ss when it comes to cars. But the bottom line came the other day when I spent £15 on getting someone to explain to me my engine temp was high because there was no water in my radiator and filled it up for me (actually, I've refilled it twice in four days since then so I figure I have a leak - so while I'm on that subject, if someone could explain to me how to find out which pipe needs replacing I'd be grateful. I know how to do it - having read up on google). So I figured I want to get more savvy and diy it whereever possible to keep costs down.

So! I decided I want to change my oil. I think I have located where the drain bolt thingy (can't remember the technical term) is but just wanted someone to confirm where that actually is so I don't unscrew the wrong thing. Also, does anyone know the correct oil viscosity I need to replace it please?

Many thanks!

Oh-Kay....
Firstly, what engine size and fuel is it?
The oil sump plug is in the... Err... Sump. This is located at the bottom of the engine. By bottom i mean, if you were to lower your engine to the floor, the sump would be the bit that makes contact with the floor first.
If youre changing your oil you want to change the filter too.

In relation to the leak, try standing it on a dry piece of ground, if it drips, then it should be easy to locate.

Good luck mate.

Sorry, it's a Diesel. I need to check the engine size. 16v rings a bell but not 100% sure.

Thanks for that. I think I'd located the sump plug but wanted to be sure. I had a look underneath and there was something around the middle under where the engine is.

I've found the fuel filter. It's behind a number of hoses. Do I have to disconnect the hoses to get at it or is there another way in?

Hi,
that's the FUEL ( diesel) filter,
1st off do the oil and (oil) filter- smallish circular cannister best viewed from the underneath of the car ( location will depend on what engine version you have),
there will be a few "how-to's" in the guides section - to give you the basics,
Charlie

Ah cool. I didn't fancy trying to get that one off. Could've been awkward too had I managed it...

Thanks for that!
