hi guys, has anybody ever attempted to fit the 2.4 from the fiat stilo abarth into a marea 2.0?

today i brought a marea weekend hlx 2.0 20v with a poorly engine and have found a stilo abarth 2.4 engine for sale in good working order, im hoping its possible using the 2.0 wiring loom and either engines manifolds etc. i understand that although it may run on the 2.0 map it wouldnt be great as its the wrong map for the extra air flow so would require a remap.

cheers for looking guys

Just drop marea electronics on it, I think the MAF is different, but atleast the injectors are same (between VIS and stilo, not sure about 147). MAF might show a error on idle for too much flow, but ecu learn might sort that out? Not sure about full throttle as it still should measure air and add fuel according to that, maybe gets confused for having too much air at high RPM too?
The stilo also has VIS so using 147 ecu might not be an option unless you use the intake manifold from it (or jam the VIS).

It has been done on coupe, maybe go look for a topic?

yesterday i brought a marea weekend 155 so atleast this is the vis engine, was looking on the fcc the other today and was reading about some who had fitted the 2.4 in a coupe, needed re mapping because was running like a dog, but with no mods they got 182bhp!! really interested in this, mapping is quoted at £295 by someone in bristol? cant remember the name.

i will be honest with you guys though, im not keeping the marea, as nice as it is its too big for me and have only brought it to use as a donar car for my bravo trofeo.

from what i can tell the idle valve is sticking so cuts out at junctions and the water pump has gone because it over heats yet there is no evidence of a blown head gasket, theres a rattle at the lower end of the engine, the engine struggles to start at hight temps which im unsure about, can anybody shed some light on this?

cheers guys

priced up the parts for both engines and noticed that on euro car parts both engine use the same head gasket set but on s4p they have different sets, the bore of the 2.0 is 82mm and the bore of the 2.4 is 83mm, do you think they could use the same set or have euro car parts got it wrong?

cheers again

The 155 doesnt have idle valve, just electronic throttlebody, maybe it just needs a good clean and relearn?
The waterpump is also easy to diagnose as there is the small return line on top of reservoir, atleast I can cleary see mine flowing. Also the thermostat is just on side of the block and not hard to change, mine was sticking open.
Overheat might also be the tempgauge acting up (or does it visibly manifest the overheating).
With different bore the HG should be different, or maybe you can fit 2.0 on 2.4 accidentally without breaking anything....

the guy i brought from lied!! lol will wip it off when i get chance and clean it up, see what happens, dont remember seeing any water flowing but i didnt have a proper look so will go see in a min, ordered a program for diagnostics with a cable so provided it works will see what fault codes i get because although its smooth on idle it doesnt seem to as responsive as i would expect when reving it up, this program also claims to do other things like live data, milage resets, speedo calibrations, remaps and more but im abit juvious of trying some of these features, finaly i think i will ring fiat up in the morning and see if they can confirm the head gasket set fitment, if its true then it will save me about £70 so worth a try

cheers guys

been out and had a look, there is water coming through to the header tank, its trickling through so unsure if this is normal? Another listen to the rattle and i cant actually tell where it is, its irregular on idle but when held at constant rpm (say 3000) it becomes regular, the engine seems smooth at idle, as for the temp if its not the pump then im unsure because i cant find and evidence of water/oil mixture anywhere, will get a compression test done when i get chance, at 76,000 miles i wouldnt of expected to much wrong but you never know. oh yeah something else is once the engine had reached operation temp i gave it a rev and the oil light flickered and the engine light came on, oil is low so gona top it up and see what happens, on the dash it keeps saying 'error C1,', the comma standing for one light on its own after the 1 on the lower half of the digit row so two of these above each other would make the number 1

Error on milage display is aircon related.
The hose on top of the reservoir is small, so just seeing coolant going there should be enough, its not really a part of the circulation process, more like a return line for the pressure in the system. Does the rad get hot? With diagnostics you can read the temperature from ecu, the dash gauge and ecu have their own sensors (in same housing at thermostat) and dash gauges are known to show their own stuff from time to time due to poor contacts on B/B/M (sometimes sorted just by slamming your hand on top of dash).
Rattle...change your oil and filter with cheap synthetic drive a week or two and throw good oil and new filter. Reading the dipstick is its own science on the 20v, hot engine and wait 10 mins before checking on level ground and this times 4 (putting 5l in mine after full drain showed way over max on the dipstick when cold for short while, but now when warm its under and hasnt moved in months, if checked cold its still way over the max so kinda trap there, fiat rates the sump and filter at 5l, 5.5l for full system).

I've got a 155 aswell. C1 error if i remeber means outside temp monitor is not working it can be found on the underneath of the drivers wing mirror, about £13 when i had to get one. the water expans tank will show a small trickle coming thru constantly. The bleed valves if opened when hot will flow but not fly out, if opened when cold will tend to flow slower.
These engines are very spark plug sensitve so check and do your oil as said above by Neverth.
The VIS can be problamatic on these aswell, when you drive the car the exhaust note should change and get louder and deeper above 4.krpb ish.
Have you bought the fiatecuscan software, would interested to no if it works.
If you need I have a compression tester and defo get the oil done asap.

ive topped up the oil and all seems to be ok engine wise, very smooth on idle and on fast idle so at the moment ive deemed the internals ok, had a really good listen today for the rattle and it seems to beone of the ancillary pulleys (well im hoping) anything internal would cause rough running at any rev range, vis seems to be working fine but untill this diagnostics program arrives i can properly diagnose the engine warning light, the program is this (320932528541) and the cable is this (370582542113) which comes with its own program so fingers crossed that it works, the best i can do with tests is on the street at home because the marea is not insured so dont really want to take any risks, because its my donor car it wont ever be insured again, it is a shame really because the bodywork is in really good nick but as i said before its to big for me really. a compression test would be really good as its one piece of kit i dont have, i see you are in derby notorious, strangely enough i kind of past you tonight as i went for a drive to matlock baths in my tempory fiat brava 80 sx, old faithful car, been in my family since october 2003, even more bizzare is i was looking at you thread about your marea this morning, very nice work mate

cheers

Got OBDII port? Your engine is then the 150 version, enginecode 185.A8.000, this engine was never originally in Bravo (cat at exhaust manifold, twin lambdas and other stuff the 155 didnt have (182.B7.000). Shouldnt matter for swap tho.

yep looks like it, i think i may of got a little to excited about buying the car to actually do my homework, the guy put 155 on the ad so i just thought "wow 155" and believed it any pros to running the 150 over the 155?

Nothing? It just has more electronics (accelerometer needed for OBD system?) and the cat/lambdas will be more expensive to change if they go bad. Otherwise its same engine.
Oilfilter is in a fun place anyway so no idea how much the cat affects the changing operation when hot.

Before you decide to break it. Marea's are becoming very very rare on the roads and might become collectible, who'd of thought Fiat 131 would be. As Neverth said not much in em 5bhp less, more electronics on engine managemeny and you got the benefit of OBD port which 155 does not.
If you get some decent lowered springs on it and good shocks you'll be amazed just well these cars handle, even better a decent exhaust and you'll have one of the best sounding cars on the road.

i can agree with you on the sound, even with the standard exhaust i think its beautiful :D there may be a small glimore of hope for it yet, ive been speeking to someone about a marea 20v which has a savere rust problem, needs a complete new floor so we will see, the chassis is useless to me so if we can work something out the it will be spared but if not then i wont have much choice as i need a donor car and im running out of time before i need to start the work, i hopefully will be using someone elses property to do the conversion so cant take the mick and keep them waiting

Added:-
hey can anybody tell what ecu the 20v 150 uses? cheers guys

Massive u-turn made in my plans, all three of my fiats are now up for sale, listed in the classifieds, quick sale needed, maybe someone may want to have ago at this conversion but i just dont have the time now with my new job, sorry to anybody who was looking forward to the end result. Somebodies chance to save the marea.

cheers
