General NEW to forum and ownership of a marea weekend help needed

Hi all i have just purchased a marea w/end yreg 98k 1.6sx 100 16v

When i picked the car up and stated up the car it sounded like it was going to conk out but never did, so i canged the air filter no change i should have spark plugs, 2nd hand coil pack and ht leads arriving tomorrow if that dont work i am stumpped is there anything else that i sould try to stop this happening???
Also the engine managment light came on today for no reason the car doesn't behave any difrrent and havent picked up any faults any ideas or ways to turn it of?? I've tried disconnecting the battery but to no avail all help much appreciated cheers bob

Hi Bob,
Welcome to the forum!
The EML is most likely connected to the way it runs, if the previous owner got the error codes erased just before you came to pick it up, then that might explain it.
You might want to get the error code/codes read before you change anything else on it, this way you know it's not form your work, maybe it needs new coil packs...maybe not.. throwing parts at and hoping is not the way to go.

hi mate

the problem you discribed also happend to my marea 16v, these are usually the symptoms of injector falier, i also replaced air flters,plugs,new coil and ht leads. nothing worked.

u should replace all 4 injectors fro peice of mind.

Thanks for replys, how much are the injectors and can you change the injectors yourself or a garage job???

My injectors came from FIAT dealer, £96.80 +VAT each.

i did th job myself took about 5 hours but i was cleaning or replacing every nut and bolt and painted the rocker cover in silver again, so should be quicker, if you know what you are doing

personally i would'nt take the car to a garage just for that.

if you can take the inlet manifold off the car the fuel rail is clearlly visible

Indeed spending £400 +VAT on injectors is a lot better then getting your error codes read, for maybe £20, and finding out why the EML is on...

yes that is true, you should get the car on a code reader first, but at 98.000 miles the injectors will be on their way out anyway

mine went at 75.000 so you have been quite lucky if their still cool

Hi thanks for the advice, i was driving along and the the car started loosing power almost like a blocked fuel filter so i bought one but cant find out where the filter is on it also one of the ht lead had packed in so got that changed and its back running on four but it still dont seem to be acceleratin as much as it was hopin to get the eml cheaked tomorrow cheers bob

the Fiat marea doesnt have a seperate fule filter, the filter is an in-tank filter and isnt a serviceble item

Go and get the ECU interrogated. Then you will have an idea of what is at fault.
