I seem to remember them changing things about 1998. If there is a thermal switch it is in the bottom corner of the radiator, it screws in.
As the car has air con I believe there is a control unit controlling two speed twin fans (can someone back me up on this).
Obviously if it has a thermal switch and single fan the circuit is very simple and easy to fault find on. If the fan(s) are controlled by the control unit you may have to get some diagnostics done somewhere.
