Due to my Hubbie being sick I got a mechanic to change the cam belt on the 1.9jtd Marea 110. He changed it today and now I started the engine and it sounds like a really old engine that has a REALLY bad tappet clack, coming from the head. The mechanic is coming back tomorrow but I fear that he has put the cam belt on say one tooth out........Could the clacking be piston to valve impacts ???? I cannot think what else it could be as I do not think that the pump is timed to the engine on this model....

Please get timing belt/timing re- checked and try not to start engine, if this is the case, as you say this will cause damage to valves etc.You are right to be wary.Did the mechanic start the car and check engine/performance before he left after he had completed the job?
