hi guys i have a 2001 marea 100 16v have noticed today when i checked the oil level theres a strong smell of pertol in the oil, what does this mean

Hows it running? Sounds like its ignoring the cylinder and slipping past down into the pan

I'd suggest a full drain, maybe a flush (Cheap oil, then expensive oil) and a new filter.
(But i dont have a marea yet, so i'm no genius on them hah!)

This can happen if you do a lot of short runs. The car is always on choke and the petrol washes down the cylinder walls and dilutes the oil. If its happening on long runs maybe the temp sensor has failed and the ECU is always over fuelling?
