i'm tryin to find the correct timing marks to allow me to fit the cambelt i've already replaced the damaged valves etc i have the kit for setting all four pistons to the same level as needed when it has snapped im trying to find out where the cams and the crank line up i 've had the cams facing each other with thte white lines that are on the cam sprockets and set the crank pulley to the timing mark next to it but when tryin to turn the engine by hand it wont turn and appears solid are there any photos that would show me the markings

I just checked my Haynes manual, its Bravo/a but covers the 1.8 engine. It doesnt help you much. If no Fiat locking tools or timing marks then use typing correction fluid to mark the timing before taking it apart, really useful in your case! There is some info The Crankshaft pulley should be keyed to the crankshaft the text tells you it is perpindicular to the sump mating flange at TDC, there is a picture showing the mark pointing straight down and there is an indent on the flange. It also shows the Fiat tools 1860875000 to hold the camshafts staionary, these are modified bearing caps and fit over no 2 inlet (rear) and no 3 exhaust. The picture shows those cams lobes pointing staight up for this procedure. The manual is available £20 per Haynes web site. Be careful here, there was one thread on here years ago where the Fiat tools were blatantly wrong.
PS wont no 1 be at TDC compression and 3 exhaust for this? 2 and 4 will be BDC. Did the engine turn OK with the head off?
