Hi All,

Cant believe i have a possible problem with my trusty 20V..but it looks that way.

When cold i can hear a strange metallic squeeking sound that i have tracked down to the clutch (possibly). On depressing the clutch you can vary the pitch slightly, and on changing gear you get a sound not unlike a Turbo Dump valve!...which is actually quite pleasant :).

When the engine warms up...total silence..nothing at all can be heard!.

Have a few Fiats, and this all started when i did not use the car for a few weeks whilst fettling my Stilo MW JTD.Now winter is upon us,it is doing it more and more.

Dry Release bearing/Jelousy?????.

Many thanks for any help.

varyvalve , i get a slight moan from my clutch but only in damp weather till she's warmed up a but then silence - iv spoken to a local machanic and friend(fiat driver too) who said that me mareas in great nick and theres no specific reason why it should be moaning but hes very happy to say that its just a quirk of my car (a marea with a quirk!!!! ) - so if hes not worried - im not worried.

My car used to do this before it had a new slave cylinder, grumble a bit from cold especially after standing in wet weather. I thought it was worn thrust bearing but my good mate Dave Pymme who runs a garage said, .look it doesnt slip or judder and it takes up smoothly with light pedal pressure, leave it. That was years ago and it still works fine. If it does slip or stop working then I will spring for a new one.

Thanks for your help guys!..sorry late reply.

Think it is down to the release bearing..or rather position of.Have heard that due to the hydraulic clutch release,it can put the bearing very close to the pressure plate and even a slightly bent spline can "Catch" on the bearing assembly,Changing the slave cylinder will alfer the distance slightly and may stop it.

As you guys say,am leaving it for now.Have checked the gearbox oil level just in case, and its ok.She has thrown various strange noises at me through the years..99% of which have gone away when she gets fed up.

Have priced up the bits for a worst case scenario, and its not to bad apart from the hassle of taking the box off!.

Now i have done that, she will probably apperciate the gesture and shut up!.

Fiats are Fiats, and character comes as standard!.

Thanks again,

Regard's,

Nick
