Hi, I currently have a permanent airbag warning light on the dash. I'm not too worried, as I intend to remove the airbag anyway; I just wondered why it would be on. Any ideas? And when I remove the airbag, will that automatically turn out the light?

If you remove the airbag the light will probably not go out as the airbag ecu will be even more unhappy than it is now and the ecu controls the airbag light. Are you changing the steering wheel? If not why are you removing the airbag?

You are correct that I am probably going to change the steering wheel, but primarily the plan is to track day the car, starting in December, and I don't fancy having the airbag there if it may not be working correctly! Eventually, of course, there will be a major strip down and all unnecessary parts, like seats etc, will be coming off....
Can I assume from you're reply that there is a separate ECU for this? If so, can I remove that as well without any knock on effects?
Thanks,
Paul.

The airbag ecu is mounted on the top of the centre hump in front of the centre console. If you remove the trim panel next to the passengers right foot you will see it there, it is a flat box with one or two multi-plugs.
Just in case you don't know, before you start messing about with any part of the airbag systems disconnect the battery, remove the airbag fuse then wait for 10 minutes.:)

Righto! Does that mean I can take the whole thing out with no detrimental effect to the rest of the electronical gubbins?
