Hello ff , i usually use asda / tesco juice but i found a petrol station priced at 111.9p-good at the time , the weekend 2.0 20v ran perfectly on it drinking bugger-all juice on the long journey ahead (300miles on 1/2 a tank), i then put the shell 'fuel save' stuff in to come back home and it got drunk faster than a lonely alcoholic(n) , so to be on the safe side i tried it again and the exact same thing happened, ,even tho id done the same checks - tyres/oil/water as before and the same style of driving:confused:
Anyone else had the same problem or is it just me..
Any and all replies most welcome , many thanks ff.

fuel save is just a load of rubbish, its just saying drive in a better manor and clear your boot out of junk

as for super-unleaded the only real place to use it if your engine has been neglected and has high carbon build up on the pistons or its on a high compression ratio

higher octane doesn't mean "MOAR POWAH!!!" it can compress to a high ratio before the pressure ignites it (detonation)

and i complain at 105p per litre of diesel but 112p for petrol :O

Thanks for the reply guys , so is the 'super' petrol the best stuff to use in my 20v with regards to economy and running or is it just a good driving style/correct tyre pressures and no collection of ****e in the boot??
Iv used BP ultimate in the past and i really admit the 20v smegging loves it , but i dont like the price(n).Thanks guys.
Any advice on this is much appreciated

My car is a diesel but I suppose at the end of the day the effect will be the same . If you use the same fuel for a while the car with it having ecu will be used to that fuel but when you put something different in it will have to relearn and the outcome maybe less or more mpg, runs better or worse thats my interpretation anyhow if you know what I mean.

I use shell fuelsave diesel at work and must admit I did notice it made my sprinter more responsive compared to the old shell diesel ! After a few thousand miles a couple of the vans in the fleet have started to have similar engine problems ! Engines not wanting to rev and going into reduced rev mode . Could just be a coincidence but I suspect it could be to do with the cleaning properties of the fuel cleaning out the rubbish in the fuel tank and blocking the fuel filter ! I use V-power or Tesco 99 in my GP T-jet Sporting as Fiat recomends a MINIMUM ron rating of 95 in this car and tests even in non modified cars say you will get an incease of power and your engine runs alot smoother using an higher octane fuel ! I find V-power better than Tesco and would recomend using it ! They say it has a higher calorific value too and I find it gives a smoother more even power delivery from lower down the rev range than the tesco ! The only downside I've heard is that it can go off so if you don't use that much only put in small amounts at a time !

Guys thanks for all the responces , iv done another £25 worth and i must admit the 20v's purring like a kitten and so far im up to nearly 36mpg and thats local runs:eek:, im gonna do the usual weekly checks on friday and see how it runs to/from work on sat/sun its only 20miles away but its virtually all non stop on the a13 to the city at 50mph so il post agaim then , thanks again ff troopers.

its just a placebo effect the only reason to use high octane fuel is if the engine has a high compression ratio, the octane set off the detonation of fuel under compression, there was a test done with standard fuel with octane additives used and they all reduced the performance of the engine

heres the test octane test

Previous fuel economy formulations have been solely based on inlet system deposit control over extended mileage using detergent additives.

This new additive formulation combined with the new Shell Efficiency Improver component works by lubricating where normal engine oils can’t easily reach. This can help engine components to turn more freely, resulting in more of the fuel’s energy being made available to drive the wheels.

This helps you get more out of every drop of Shell FuelSave Unleaded and saves you up to 1 litre per tank* at no extra cost.

Getting to this stage was a welcome challenge for our scientists, who relentlessly tested the fuel in their lab as well as on the road so that each time you fill up, you save.

Over 5,000 miles were driven in the series of on-road demonstrations have been carried out in a range of cars and engine types. Tests were carried out at a third party testing centre using an industry recognised Fuel Economy Drive Cycle. Each vehicle was tested 36 times over a 6 month period and over 5,000 miles were driven in the series of on-road demonstrations.

So, save up to 1 litre per tank* with Shell FuelSave Unleaded – head to your nearest Shell station today.

*Based on a minimum tank size and fill up of 50 litres. Comparison between a standard gasoline and that same standard gasoline containing our instantaneous fuel economy formula. Actual savings may vary according to vehicle, driving conditions and driving style.

so you save 1 litre in a 50 litre tank, these tests where done on the roads so by a person and that person wouldn't be able to drive the same on each road exactly the same or even in the same conditions

so id say a placebo effect

I cant see the point of the you tube video theres nothing on there about shell. Seems rather strange all of the mixtures produced -2% less power do you think there might be something wrong with there testing gear.

well octane booster is octane booster, the video was just to point out the higher octane is pointless at the pump unless you have a high CR engine or are running silly boost

shell could learn something from that video

it had a control to run the test result against, it was also the same program running the same engine in the same conditions for the same amount of time not some person out in the road gunning it to get back quicker on the Friday afternoon....

and the writing on the shell website is all the proof really needed to show its a load of rubbish
