Stupid question. But I will sort out the wiring on my stereo tomorrow before I go out for the day (I hope). One of the setting on my stereo is ACC - ON/OFF. The manual says that if I have an accessory position on my igniton I set it to ON, if not I set it to OFF.

As best I can see there is no accessory position on my Merea. To get the electrics to the window/stereo you have to have the iginition system on and the dash lit up. Am I right in this or is there an accessory position on the ignition I have not found?

Just want to be sure as the stereo manual hints the battery could go flat if I get it wrong (n)

The power lead to your stereo should be a permanent live feed. As for the ignition switch, mine goes from off to on,then start, there's no "middle" ground, like other cars, where by, you can use the accessories

There should be a little button on the barrel, if you push it in you can turn they key in the other direction and you have accessory

K guys, ther car is being used elsewhere in the family and we are relying on the MGs ATM so it was from memory. Still worth knowing about the little button.

This is one of those problems with these cars that are a pain in the a**e, I often want to sit in the car and listen to the stereo without having the engine running and I don't like to have full ignition on to do so. On my Brava I wired a switch between the +12v permanent feed and the +12v switched feed on the back of the stereo, just for safety I used a 12v diode in the switched 12v to make sure it didn't 'back feed' any circuits when the ignition was off. If you want to do this let me know and I will draw a circuit diagram for you (providing someone can tell me how to put a scanned diagram on the site). Alternatively I can describe the process in detail.

You can have the radio on without any fancy wiring or switches if you press the expert button and set it in there. It will stay on for 20mins then if thats not long enough press the button switch it on again no ignition.

thats what mine does stay on for 20 mins brill....

That's fine if you have the original radio but if (as I have) you fit an upgraded stereo unit you still have this problem. :(
Wiring or configuring the stereo so that it does not turn on/off with the ignition has always seemed to me to be a real pain, I don't want to have to turn the stereo on/off each time I get in or out of the car.

Must be pretty tiring for you lol.

It is, my poor finger is worn to the bone and my arm aches!
I have to say I don't know if leaving the ignition on for a length of time without the engine running will do any damage these days, in the old days before electronic ignition etc it would cook the coil. I just don't like to do it. I also run with dipped beams all the time, in that respect Fiat have got it right in my opinion as the lights turn off with the ignition. I just don't understand why they don't have an accessory position on the ignition switch.
