Hi guys,

I have just replaced my stereo head unit after HATING the Sony one that came with the car when I got it, and finding a nice brand new Panasonic MP3 enabled stereo at a car boot sale today. After the joys of fitting it with that stupid bay in the back of the area a head unit fits and how stuffing tight it is to fit the cables in, I noticed a problem.

When I turn the stereo off, it forgets all it's settings. Now my old Sony did not do this. After a little head scratching I twigged - the stereo doesn't have a permanent live feed, only a switch feed off the ignition. The old stereo must have had some type of memory to remember settings where as this one does not.

So what I want to know is this, is there an easy way/place to grab a permanent live feed - short of running a new wire from the battery into the car which I really do not fancy doing. On previous cars I have nicked the feed off the light switch - but my Merea I notice turns the lights off when you turn the ignition off so that is no good.

Any thoughts on where I can steal a live feed from or do I need to run a new one off the battery?

Cheers People.

This is something iv heard before. Im sure the issue can be fixed by swapping the red and yellow wires at the back of the head unit. As there is a permandnt amd switched power supply.

Oh so it is not a case of not having one, more they are sitting on the wrong pins effectively. If it is that simple I will have a play at the weekend as I sadly am out all day tomorrow so will not have time.

Can anyone else confirm this is correct as I do not want to do it and find out I am wrong.

Thanks

Sorted and working! Maybe I am old school here, I was expecting to have to cut and rejoin the leads as in the past with things like this. But the coverter plug that Panasonic supplied had bullet connectors on the power, so it was a case of unplug them, and swap them over. Absolutely simple and a joy it was so easy. Stereo seems to be working fine now and remembering what it needs to.

Thank you both so much for this, I would never have thought it would be such a simple thing to rectify!

Have a great day people.

Glad you got it sorted easily. To be honest I don't know who originally figured it out. I just read it here somewhere, when I was looking for a way to run a live feed to the boot. haha

As long as the answer is right that is what matters. Later on I may look to grab the multi-changer for this stereo. The Panasonic adapter cable had a double bullet connector on the main live so I could run a wire to this, shove a bullet crimp on and plug it in for a second feed which is handy.

Thank you for the help. At the end of the day - it worked!
