Hi,

Im new to the forum so pleased to meet you all.

Unfortunatley i do have a couple of questions though, i recently obtained a fiat marea weekend estated 19.jtd elx for a very resonable price as it needed some welding done to the sil, now that the weldings done the car seems sound apart from two minor things.

On the engine their is a black box of sorts attached to the back of the engine it has 1 pipe at the top and 2 at the bottom, it appears to be slightly leaking some form of oil though im not sure what. Said box however has been damaged and had a bodge fix job done on it by someone, can anyone tell me what this box is for, as i have managed to finally obtain a manual of sorts though it doesnt seem to have this box anywhere in the manual, Please see 1.jpg

Secondly their is another item, said item please see 2.jpg From what i can gather this appears to be something to do with the E.G.R please correct me if im wrong and whats strange is that when the engine is turned off this continues to make a noise kind of like a sucking noise and it does this for a good few minutes after the engine has been turned off, if this is normal then their is no problem but to me it just doesnt seem normal.

Apologies i know their is a lot to read and believe me im no expert when it comes to engines but i have been looking and trying my best to find out what these parts are so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit, it is the 105bhp model

Apologies thought i had added that in the original post my fault.

You dont say which model is it 105 or110bhp after saying that mine dosent have any of those and its a 110JTD

The first 1 is the breather oil separator, (I think)

No idea what the second is but my car has one and it dose the same.

Mine is a JTD 105

Thanks for the replys and im glad to hear your jtd makes the same noise was worried it may have been faulty, as for the black box still looking to see if i can obtain one so i can replace it, if you dont mind me asking what is the usual mileage you guys see from your marea's as im only getting about 35miles to the £5 at the minute though i havent had a chance to give it a good service yet.

on average I would say 45+ mpg

I have a 1998 105td saloon and I am getting around 40mpg but only changed the oil since getting the car a couple of weeks back, the air filter needs changing so maybe that will help?

Thanks for the reply im slowing working through everything at the moment next on the list is the airfilter as it does look like it needs a new one its pretty dirty, my main two concerns at the moment are this black box as it appears to be leaking exhaust gas and the car has developed a new problem where sometimes if you floor her a bit as if to overtake someone she occasionaly just cuts completely and the engine turns off it then takes around 10 minutes before she will restart.

But like anything this is a learning experience and im enjoying it also the marea is one car i just love no idea why i just like them.
