brother's 1.9jtd has failed mot on trailing arm bush n/s; intend to replace bush and have removed damper, spring, ARB, brake pipe, ABS sensor, handbrake cable and the large nut on the bolt going through the bush but am unable to remove the bolt, I cannot even turn it despite a rattlegun and a breaker bar; I cannot get at the end of the bolt to hit it out with a lump hammer because the fuel tank is in the way; the bolt "gives"slightly because of the rubber bush and that's probably preventing the rattlegun from shifting it; I might have to drill off the head of the bolt (god forbid) and knock the bolt out from the outside; any advice would be much appreciated......

thanks johnson550; presumably this would be a drift long enough to reach the bolt from the other side of the car passing over/just in front of the fuel tank? this did occur to me but the approach looks difficult and I do not have a long enough bar to use; have just try a 10" g clamp with one end on the (loosened nut) and the other just to one side of the bolthead but as soon as I put serious torque on the clamp it cracked; whilst typing this it occurs to me to use a very thin blade on the angle grinder and cut through the bolt each side of the trailing arm between the trailing arm and the beam axle...........

success! manage to cut through the bolt between trailing arm and beam axle; initially used an ultra thin blade on standard angle grinder but not deep enough; they do not make thin 140mm blades so had to use a 3mm one; erred on the side of damaging the arm rather than the beam axle; had to cut both sides; quite hazardous has had to omit guard; what a b*****d of a job; the bolt had corroded into its long metal sleeve so I was never going to be able to knock it through; the bearing had completely disintegrated and what is left of it is fused to the arm so it looks like a new trailing arm rather than just replacing the bearings; the front bush on the beam axle looks shot so will probably replace that also......
