Hi,

I've a constant red light on my 1998 Marea dash. It's to the left of the display and its a person sitting sideways with their belt on and a big red circle in front of their face.

I Failed my MOT last week and this was part of the failure. The examiner said its a Passenger Air bag light. My Marea doesn't have a passenger air bag. :bang:

Any ideas?
Thanks!

That is the air bag light.

It is not a mot fail item though, If that's all they failed it on I would take it back and kindly let them know that the airbag light on doesn't mean it won't work.

all the Brav's/mareas I have had all have the airbag light on, never once failed an mot in 5yrs.)

I found it in a pdf manual I downloaded. Its a faulty air bag by the looks of things. I'll check out the thread I already see in the forum.

As Bravo_pro says airbag light on is NOT an MOT failure. The most the tester can do is add it to the advisory notices. Once the other failure items are sorted take the car back for retest and tell the tester to check with VOSA if he still thinks it is a fail. Good luck:)

You need to install the multiecuscan in a lappy with USB port (running XP or newer) from here:
http://www.multiecuscan.net/Default.aspx
Order the required interface from eBay or the company given on that site, check the vehicle compatibity list for the required adapter (in my case with 3-pin adapter).
Connect up, read out and reset your air-bag warning. Programme will only run for 20 mins, so
prepare everything first. Air-bag connector is accessible through a little door in the top of the glove compartment. The same programme and adapter can be used for all the ECU connectors on the Marea TD 100.
It worked a charm for me!

ADDING: to air-bag connection you need a VAG/KKL or OBDKey interface, other modules accept ELM327 too.
