Hi hopefully somebody can help me as i am stuck proper i have just bought the 2.4 diesel (5 cylinder) marea its on a t reg and is the awfull brown colour but i never bought it for looks just for some good old hard work with it having a cracking powerfull engine under the bonnet ive just got it through a new mot but has a rally fustrating fault i need to sort before i tax it and put it to work the trouble is it fires first click every time regardless of weather but after a little while or maybe 5 mile of steady driving it just cuts out as if you had just turned the key back no warning splutters or nowt then you could sit untill the battery dies turning it over with the red injector symbol light on dash flashing but it wont even try to fire but leave it ten mins and hey presto fires first click until it does exactly the same again and so on i`m presuming something is getting hot and when cooled a bit works again i really dont know as i havent a clue bout these engines and the diagnostics sockets arent your usuaslly scart type this really is my last resort posting on here then i`m gona av to take it to fiat wich is bad because i`m skint i think theres a few who knows that feeling yes?? Hopefully its a coman fault and or somebody out there knows or has a good idea what could be the matter please please any help so i can have a smile on my face and can get it on the road without to much expense/trouble thanks minty.........

Those are classic symptoms of a failing crank sensor. Cheap and easy to fix.

Absolulty the same problem I had with my Marea 2.4 JTD.

The crank sensor was only around £30 and its located at the back of the engine near the gearbox and was a little bugger to get to. you have to go in from under the car. even then I had to feel my way around.

Took about an hour to change and the car hasn't missed a beat since. :)
