hi lads i need info on my 110sx jtd the clutch in on the verge of dying on me it's gone very heavy and needs pushing in all the way hard .ok my garage guy needs to know which one it is ie dual stat or something and mentioned the free flywheel or something making it a costly job or a not so costly job any info on which one i need lads or any info at all on how much it should cost etc as i can get a complete clutch for 82 quid brand new as well ..oh the yr is a 2001 model..

The flywheel youre on about is called dual mass, it sounds like the same problem I had clutch pedal gone heavy. Whats happened is the thrust bearing has welded itself onto the pressure plate and you cant get full release on the clutch. If youre getting heavy vibration with the engine under load then youl need a new flywheel otherwise its just clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing. It cost me £300 just for labour its a 9 hour job.

thats what he said yeah the dual mass i have'nt got bad vibe's just heavy and jerky when you first take off other than that its fine no bad clutch wearing noise i've had on other cars even the release bearing is quiet nope fingers crossed it;s just what you said thanks for that it's booked in for thursday watch this space, andy

When they get the gearbox and clutch off, the flywheel should have no disernable latteral play, and the outer should twist against the inner no more than x degrees. I'll try to find out what that magic number is for you!

Worthwhile getting the slave cylinder replaced too while they're in there. It's the most common part to fail in the clutch system and costs about £25-30.

What youre saying sounds like the slave cylinder is inside the gearbox but its outside.

On the 1.9 yes it is, it's inside on the 130 2.4. Still, unless the current one is looking very healthy since you have to take it off you might want to consider replacement.

so my 110 sx w/ender's is outside then not inside yeah?

i've just been out shopping in our w/ender and have noticed it judders a bit when you first start off but thats it no juddering under load ie starting off in say third on a slight incline etc ..was your prob the same!

no it wasnt starting off it was when you put your foot down in 3rd 4th or 5th.

well i've got the clutch coming wed £82 it's going in to be done thurs god knows how much it'll come to he does'nt/wont know till he gets to it!!

If its a proper garage he should be able to say how much. The time it takes is in a book they have and they know how much an hour to charge.

hi he did quote between 400/600 depending on the flywheel or something i love this car to bits as does my wife but f.eck thats a h.ell of a price that as is the glow plugs should i ever need them changed i think ..

Ive had a glowplug off for about two year now and it started up ok last winter so I think Ill leave it alone. Ive heard a few stories about them snapping when you try to get them out then its take the head off time.

just had another quote today for the job he recons 6 and a half hr job 30 quid an hr just under 300 squid! now do i go with my first garage who does mostly diesel work or the lower quote which could work out half the cost oh i dunno what to do !! lol..
