Hi, my marea 1.9 TD, has just decided to shed the crank pulley, and discard it out the front of my vehicle. The rubber just seems to have broken. Tha auxillery belt is still on the other pulleys, and the engine will still start, but is very noisy. has anybody any ideas as to how much damage will have done to the engine, and if it is worth trying to get it repaired. Thanks in advance.

probably no serious damage but do not run the engine as bits may have got under the cambelt and damaged it; suggest renew auxiliary belt and all the tensioners/pulleys; worth changing cambelt/tensioners/water pump as well; certainly worth doing as these are longlasting engines if looked after

Thanks for the reply.I didn't know if it would have damaged valves or anything. The engine has done nearly 180000 miles, and some of the tensioners were changed last year. The car is getting a bit tired now, so i will price up the bits, and see if it worth it. Pete.

I've fitted a new pulley, and belt, but engine is knocking very badly, could it have knocked the timing out?. will it damage the engine if i drive it to my mechanics garrage. thanks.

Hi Pete I had exactly the same experience with my 1.9 jtd. I am trying to figure out how to fit the pulley. Could you advise?

Hi, on mine all that was holding it was 4 star type bolts. It had knocked the timing out, so i had to have it sorted out, and new belt fitted, but luckily no other damage was done, and it's still going strong. Got nearly 190,000 miles on the clock now. Hope that helps. Pete.

Hi,

My JTD has started to make a bit of a racket from the belt area, can you tell me how much the crank pulley was please.

Hi, my pulley was just under £80.00, but i think you can get them cheaper online. I had to get mine in a hurry, so i had to pay the over the counter price for it.
