hi people... i have been reading some topics in this forum about how to conect to fiat 3 pin diagnostic sockets but the more i read the more i feel confused with this subject

I own a 1997 Fiat Marea 2.0 20v from Portugal. I want to be able to read the fault codes of the engine management system and also airbag and eliminate those fault codes if it is possible. I've been reading about various ways to conect, with diferent interfaces, but never really realized wich interface to buy and wich software to use. i hope you can tell my what is the most cheap way to do it ( i'm student and i cannot spend to much money in this now ) . Another doubt is if with the interface and an appropriate software i can also be able to read the actual data with the engine runing ? like rpm, maf values, injection timing, real distance of done by the car, etc ?
In Brasil some guy did an scanner to the Motronic M2.10.4 ( the ecu my car uses ) and with this scanner he can read the live data of the engine that i mentioned before. I'm not allowed to post URLs once I have less than 5 posts but if you search on Google by scanner bosch motronic 2.10.4 you will find the web site of the guy showing the scanner and how he made it.
