hi all!

A couple of weeks ago my fiat marea weekend developed a mis-fire that seemed to come and go, the red injection system light kept coming on intermittently (when i first started the car whilst it was misfiring). I know i should of got it seen to straight away but, ahem, i didnt.

Then today i was pulling off the drive and... snap.

I removed the top half of the cover (well made a gap) to confirm my suspicions that the belt had indeed snapped.

So first off; is it worth repairing. Its an X plate 1.6 97k on the clock and i paid £500 for it.

secondly, how far is the damage likely to have gone.. im assuming valves/head off etc...... and how expensive is this likely to be.

I work for a parts company so its not neccesarily the cost of the components to put right, more of the labour intensive side of it!

Thanks in advance!

James

i just weighed a marea weekend in with no headlights top half of engine gone and no exhaust it come out at £115 in my area

If its a 1.9jtd the pistons will be ok but some or all of the valves will be bent; recondition the head and it should be ok. Happend to my brothers car 2 years ok and its done over 20000m since ok

The engine will have bent valves and its a tricky little one to fix. Find a replacement engine and fit it in as cheap as you can (with a new belt) or scrap it.
