Hey chaps,

Just a quick question abotu 2 cars :)

Changing oil in my 2.4jtd and my girlfriends 1.2 16v corsa (v reg)

I'm not exactly wealthy at the moment so I was wondering what oil is reccomended for these engines at a reasonable price?
Also how much oil do I need?

I will be empting and flushing the engines.

thanks for any replies

Darren

Thanks chap,

The flush is only £5 and I don't know when the last oil change was, I've done 11k miles so far and the car has done 151k, no record of last service...

I thought by flushing it, it might give the old girl a chance of continuing the way she is (without the injector light which will hopefully be fixed tomorrow) :)

any good quality brand semi or fully synthetic 10W40 oil for turbo diesels (it should mention suitability for turbo's) should do fine for the JTD.. the oil quantity should be listed in the owners manual / handbook, but assume 5 liters anyway. make sure to pre oil and fill the new filter before starting.

as for the corsa, just park it on the edge of a cliff and let gravity do the rest (joking of course :D ) 5W30 i would imagine, @ 3.5 litres but do check the manual or other online guide.

Thanks chaps,

All done now, took 5l exactly of Castrol GTX turbo diesel.
Only problem I had was getting the sump plug off, someone had rounded the allen key off and had tightened the bugger up so tight I couln't grip it to loosen it. After 2 hours with my dad we hacksawed the bolt into a square shape and got a spanner with extendable bar on it.
All done now.

The corsa I put in 4L of castrol gtx petrol, only problem here was ordering the oil filter online and after searching the engine bay I found it was an old style spring loaded seperate filter, so I will be changing that today.

both oil's were on offer at morrisons, £14.99 for 4L, not too bad I thought.

the sump plug takes a fiat/alfa star key not an Allen key but it still tends to round off; I use a "footprint" wrench similar to but better than a mole grip to undo it; always use a good quality fully synthetic oil to prolong the life of the turbo (morrisons are currently selling havoline for 16.99 for 5l); the corsa has the same engine as my wife's 2000W 1.6 tigra and I have always used 10-40W semi-synthetic and its now done 187,000 miles; frequent oil and filter changes are the key to engine longevity....
