My Weekend tailgate lock does not lock on the central locking. The solenoid clunks over but seems to return back to where it started leaving the tailgate unlocked. I have to lock it with the key. It unlocks perfectly. I have checked the mechanical lock mechanism and it is working as it should.
When the solenoid extends it locks, but does anyone know if it is meant to stay extended? Mine returns to its starting position.

Mine does exactly the same thing. All I do is, when I close the tailgate I give it a push on the very left-hand side, a few inches above the bottom edge. It clicks - and then it locks fine on the central locking. This may not work for you but it's free and therefore worth a try :D

That'll probably be because it's not latched properly then - there are 2 latches (obviously) and it will only lock with the central locking if it is correctly latched on both. Try adjusting the latches by slackening off the bolts and moving it out slightly. You can also adjust the bumpstops a little to allow the lid to shut further if you think this is the issue.

If my tailgate isn't properly latched the entire central locking fails and the car will not lock until it is latched....

Had the same problem on my marea, i literally stripped the whole system out, cleaned it all up and replaced. Solenoid sounds like its gone tbh, you can probs get one cheap from a scrappy?

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. The lock is working as it should because I had it all stripped out when I cured the common Weekend tailgate catch sticking problem.

The problem seems to be with the solenoid, I think I will just order one from Fiat rather than change getting another dodgy one from fleabay or the scrappies.:)

Hmm....I thought that was 'standard'...lol!

There is a fix, but I've just taken the interior panel off and pull on the actuating rods from inside the car on the rare occasion that I want it open.

Dont tell me....your rear wiper doesn't work either....

Someone will be along to tell you how to fix it. :)

Ok I've had a search on the forum, and found a few things to try. I didnt realise it was such a common problem !!

Done it !!! used a tip given by a member ( cant remember who, but thanks ! )

Now for the rear wiper....

I removed the rubber surrounding the catch, and oiled it. Sometimes it still gets stuck, but a quick thump puts it right !

Z-Z-ZOMBIE THREAAAAAD!!

my old wagon used to get the lever stuck in the up position sometimes, always came unstuck when i closed the boot though.

without any more info on what "slack" actually is, it's hard to give a diagnosis, best to just get stuck in and have a fiddle i reckon, it's not the most complicated area of the car.

The levers are stuck, there is a metal peg that moves in groove, lock/unlock moves the peg to position where it catches. A bit of rattling while driving moves the levers to the proper poistion.
If you press it in while it is locked the lever moves, but it is supposed to return by spring.

I've completely disassembled my lock (just C-clips holding it together) and sandpapered the holes a bit bigger and filed the plastic stands shorter so it moves more freely. Also drilled new hole for the spring so it pulls with more force.

Slack - the lever just "waves in the wind"..NOT driving any mechanism..,

does yours do this if the lock is turned to the "DEAD" position..

mine IS tired.. the bar the handle pivots on is redrusty..so the springs are not strong enough to return the handle..it had a small hole already drilled in it, and a cable tie is now fitted for pulling the lever back down..

I've had it all apart twice already.. but this is a new issue.. ( the lock doesn't want to turn..) but had locked and unlocked reliably via the CL, and still SOUNDS as if that's still working.:bang:

I'm wondering if the push-pull solenoid has worked loose, https://www.fiatforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=151688&d=1426978167
so goes clonk-clonk..but isn't driving the lever arm;
in one spot the lever is loose/free
then fells like it's "rubbing"
then drives normally and opens the latches..
Neverth..,
just read your reply..,
which parts did you slot,
the handle are..or the 2 x side lock-bolts??

And those two holes on the image (larger holes and filed the down, I think I made the plastic washer thinner on the other one)

The keyhole is cut, covered and painted so ignore it.
