With being a little concerned about the emissions coming from the exhaust i had my X reg 1.8 Weekend checked out and the result was that i had a "so called" 2nd stage Lambda problem. I know that it sits near to the Cat but is it an easy replacement job or do i have to drop the entire exhaust to do the job? I only had the exhaust replaced by a garage 18 mths ago so i'm hoping the Lambda's not too difficult to get out. Also what would i expect to have to pay for a replacement and any suggestions on where to get one from would be great as there are so many that apparently could fit? The technical data from the electronic manual lists 2, NTK OZA 341-1 and NTK OZA 112-A3. One i think replaced the other but this baffles me so advice is required!!!!

Assuming you can get access to the sensor they just unscrew. Make sure you unplug it first. The problem you may have is they tend to rust in to the exhaust system and can be a pig to get out.
New one is not a problem, all the good motor factors sell them, they will just need your registration number to get into the catalogue for your car and select the correct one.:)

hi the lambda sensor is in the down pipe just before the pipe goes under the engine i had to replace mine last year for the mot i brought a universal one off ebay and just had to fit original plug onto wires.went through mot with no problems then and was only £12 including postage

I think it's time to get underneath and have a look. There seems to be conflicting information about how many Lambda's are fitted from reading other threads. Being an X reg it would appear that this age of vehicle could have 1 or 2 fitted but if the emission test is showing 2nd stage problem then surely it would make sense that there would be 2 or is it not that obvious. Has anyone out there used a product called "Cataclear"? I think that's how it's spelt. It's supposed to clean everything from the injectors, lambda through to the Cat. Is this worth trying first?

hiya i have got 2 weekends both 1.8 engines one is r reg one is t eg both only have the one sensor

My 2.0 20v has 1 sensor aswell , do you mean 'cataclean' i used it a few years ago for best results add it to the fuel tank when theres not much in there and leave it standing running so it gets real hot , but i added it to my tank when i juiced up and went for a long run-personally i think it worked better running thru constantly then wallop all in one go, just like 'redex' great stuff just use it propperly or it you can get major grief,i use it twice a year about two months before my m.o.t and 6months later-but thats just my opinion.

A quote i found on a similar thread says this:-

"Yes if yours is the later model, you will have a pre and post cat lambda. The pre one is on the exhaust manifold, and the post one is just below the cat, which is the big bit just after the manifold. If you have the CF2 version, then there is only 1 lambda sensor. This is located on the downpipe just after it turns 90degrees and goes under the engine, where the 2 pipes turn into 1."

I assume you must have the CF2 version, but what worries me is if the replacement exhaust i had fitted does not have the Lambda in place, i.e. i've been mis-sold the incorrect exhaust for the car. I think i'll still have to get it up on the ramps at the weekend to check.

Mines only got the one mate, but like you it'l be up on ramps on mon/tues when im off shift for me to replace the front fogs , il av a nose at the cat/exhaust while im there too , let me know what you find pls n i'l do the same

Im looking at the fiat service cd, (section 7 1998 20v, page 36 onwards) according to the drawing theres only one lambda in-line its almost right underneath the gear stick.

on both of mine they are in the engine bay just before the pipe bends round the bottom of the engine you can get to them easier from below

I spoke to my local dealer yesterday who did a check using the vehicle reg and said there's only one fitted. The one i can see is the one on the exhaust manifold just below the heat shield at the front. I'm going to make an attempt in getting it out at the weekend and check the state of it. I'll get one on order anyway because the data i'm reading says they only last upto 50k then lose their effeiciency, and this one looks like the original plus they say if you change the Cat you should also change the Lambda. Think i'll still have a look underneath to check though!!!

50K!! , mines got 106 on the clock!!! Let me know how the 'getting out' operation goes and any agg you get also where you get the new one/how much , fink its time to get mine done now you'v said 50k , i had a quick nose today and mines in the same place as yours-which makes me wonder why! on the cd did it say its underneath?!?!?

i got my new one on ebay was a 4 wie unversial one with right size thread think it was only £12 including postage u just have to cut the plug off your original one and join the wires up my car then went through mot without a problem readings were perfect

Just been underneath and i only have the one sensor as described, on the downpipe before it goes under the engine. I sprayed on some release spray, left it for an hour and it came out sweet as a nut, no stress, swearing or scrapped knuckles. It needs replacing though. Everything i've read about the universal sensors does not bode well, they're not particularly set upfor the car so they burn out quicker. They may be cheap but often only last about 12 months so i've getting a direct fit one. The one fitted to mine is a NTK OZA 341-1 so that's what's going back on. The best price i can find at the moment is about £60 from a company called Just Lambda (www.lambdasensor.co.uk). They stock the NTK version and their own for only a few pounds difference, plus VAT and postage is included. Should only take a few minutes to exchange when it arrives, no fiddling about with connecting wires etc.

Thanks for the info , mines got one as described in the cd almost bang under the gearstick!! iv just been under mine aswell , changed the front fog-light bulbs ,had an oil leak and sorted those while under there( love to have a pit/ramp in my garden) ,let me know how it goes with the fitting and where did you find the info for the exact replacement pls??

Joker, If you go to the website it covers all cars, all models plus if you go to the NGK website as well you can cross check the info as their catalogue is spot on as well. The only thing to pay attention to is the actual connector as there are 2 types, a thin narrow one or a square type one. The actual part number is different but i did a visual check just incase, as i've found before just because the book says it's the right one it doesn't always turn out that way. Not expecting any problems when i do the exchange as i didn't over tighten it when putting it back in. Did notice though my oil filter has been pinged by a stone or something and now needs replacing as it's dripping oil from a small hole/fracture. Not a job i enjoy but it's got to be done.

Thanks, AR118 ,il be beck under there on sat when im finished work ,let me know how it runs with the new sensor in.
