Technical Drums to Calipers

Assuming you are talking about the rear drums on a Marea, why would you want to? It would throw the whole balance of the braking system out and you would probably end up coming to a halt with the back wheels locked and sliding any time you put anything but the lightest pressure on the pedal in the wet. (n)

don't "think" it's that much work, it's often done on the cinq/sei/puntos and it's exactly the same i'd imagine, especially as the rear disk will be the same size and they have similar set up to the rear suspension as well. don't know if there's anything in the how to guides..

also you have the advantage of having rears discs available on the same set up, so parts will work and no improvisation is needed!

Alfa 155s in 1.8 form have the ventilated 257mm front brakes and standard 240mm rear discs and they're ok. I'm assuming that the front brakes on the marea are already the ventilated 257mm ones!

Thats why I was asking and if its going to be like you say it is then I would leave it alone

why would you think it would put the brake balance out?

the 20v and 2.4JTD models have discs standard, i guess you would need the trailing arms, calipers, brake flex pipe (maybe solid aswell), set of disc's.

it'll be the same as doing it on the bravo so i would see what they are using to do it, i've had a little search but couldnt find a thread on it, sorry.

you may also, if you have it, need to check which size ABS sensors you have as they differ depending which system if fitted.

If another model of the same car has discs all round then it would be ok to change them but you would need to make sure that the whole system including any compensator valves etc were changed over otherwise the system will be too rear brake biased. I am still not sure why you would want to do it except for the look, most of the braking effort on all cars is from the front because the weight of the car moves to the front when you brake and the back goes light. Personally I would prefer to spend my money and time making sure what was there was working properly. We have to assume Fiat know something about building cars and usually get things like the braking systems about right.

i agree with everything you say tbh. but as long as you have at least 257mm ventilated front brakes it's perfectly safe to have rear discs, interestingly as far as i can remember the brake compensator valve is the same on all models, 'hot' ones with discs, eg 20v marea/16v tipo and lowest models with drums eg 1.4 tipo/bravo.

There's not much advantage going to discs as you've said though, it's mostly for cosmetic reasons. but however the OP has a tuned one so it may well be worthwhile, as long as front brakes are examined first.

I've done it on my JTD Bravo. Dead easy to do.

All you need is...

1. Rear Discs
2. Spacer For Hub. (The old one wont sit the Discs right, take off doner car)
3. Disk Guard
4. Calliper Mounts and bolts.
5. Callipers
6. Handbrake cables (L+R) from doner car or buy new.
7. Brake Pads
8. New Rear Section Brake Lines

The hubs can stay and so can the ABS sensors if you have ABS.

Technically there is no gain in braking, its more for looks and easier to maintain than drums.
