I have opportunity to possibly buy a 2000 Marea 2.4JTD 130 with 86k miles
with a bottom end engine knock.
Can buy car for just over scrap value. The car is otherwise mint with full Fiat service history.
Are these engines, components like rocking horse poo? Are the Alfa engines identical internally etc?

Thanks for any input.

well, they were like rocking horse poo a year ago, now they seem to be hopping up all over the place!

they are apparently very good engines, the early Alfa engine was the 10v but later they released a 20v version.

i have one no, obviously compared to the 20v N/A and 20vT it is just no comparison but its alright to potter around in, in all honest i think its about as quick as a 1.2 8v, i tried to get ahead of a golf 2.0TDI the other day on the way to work and what a mistake that was, its certainly not a modern day diesel

Holy moly

My old Peugeot 306 mechanical pump, diesel will mid range from 45mph upwards, out power a 1.6 306 with the same 90bhp purely as a result of the torque. My Hdi is similar.
I'm thinking that you must have a boost issue Ry.. :(

Thanks for the feedback :)

something doesnt seem right with it, the previous owner told me he blocked off the EGR as it made it feel faster, maybe actually made it slower?

and this intake temp sensor, i cant find the cable for it anywhere, can anyone confirm its actually ment to be connected, its just after the airbox by the wing before the MAF

blocking the egr technically should improve speed as it will prevent a percentage of exhaust gas mixing with the inlet air.
I guess it depends how it hs been done and whether on the JTd it will cause issues as regards to it being electronically controlled giving a signal to the Ecu.

Ry, I would treat it exactly as you would a 20v Turbo petrol. Fitting a boost gauge might give an idea of whats going on.
look for boost leaks, check the maf, unplug to try it.
have a look at the boost solenoid, wastegate etc.

No idea on the induction temp sensor although if its there then surely its needed
