Re: handbrake sticking on cold days!

Often happens when the small rubber boots around the cable at the caliper end split. Water gets into the outer cable then freezes in cold weather. Then the cable doesn't release.

Re: handbrake sticking on cold days!

exactly as above, you can try and get some oil into the cables and then puh grease in after to hold it in, should help.

or a temp solution is to get a hairdrier on them for a few minutes

Ry

Re: handbrake sticking on cold days!

Don't put grease in if it's a plastic coated inner cable. Grease will soften the plastic over time and cause the cable to sieze. The oppisite of what you want.

Dave.

Re: handbrake sticking on cold days!

AFAIK the older ones wernt plastic coated, the new ones i ordered recently were, but they seem much better quality anyway.

still, its 60ish for FIAT replacements or 24 for pattern parts, although the pattern ones are only good for a year...

when it's freezing or near freezing, just park it in gear with handbrake off.

Re: handbrake sticking on cold days!

Mine done this last week at 6am on the way to work , it turned out my nearside caliper had seized! -perfect timing .
when you'v parked for the night b4 you turn the engine off put it in reverse then switch off, works like a handbrake also it cant be towed away as the wheels are locked .

Re: handbrake sticking on cold days!

Just park it in gear and leave the handbrake off, if you feel like making it more secure just stick some chocks under the wheel incase.

It seems to be a common problem at the minute with this cold weather, I don't know if you've got a garage but if you have park it in there, less time to de-ice and let everything warm up!
