The rev counter, speedo, temp gauge and full gauge on my Marea 2.0 HLX have stopped working. When you turn the key in the ignition once they work, when you start the car they just go dead. Been told that it could be the sensor on the crank case .............. anyone else experienced this ?????

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Are you saying that when you turn the key to the first position the instruments work, but when you start the engine and release the key they don't work?

Don't think the crankcase sensor would cause that fault unless it was putting a funny earth onto the system?

I would check fuses and play around with the ignition key first before checking the sensor and then look for any obvious wear on cabling. Do any other systems stop working, e.g., indicators?

Get back and we'll have another think.

thanks polecat ........... when you turn the key once and the power comes on, all the dials work, fuel, temp ......... when you start the car all the dials just die, no speedo, rev counter, fuel or temp. Will check all the fuses and wiring at weekend. Rang fiat who said it was probably the sensor on the crank shaft £260 for the sensor. Just wanted to check whether anyone else had experienced this problem before getting a garage to sort it out.

I doubt that its the crankshaft sensor, if that was broken I doubt if the engine would start. It sounds more like an instrument/wiring/earthing fault.

I too have instrument faults in my car - the rev counter under reads by 800 rpm and the exterior light bulb blown indicator lights despite all bulbs being OK. If I ever get to the bottom of it, I'll post my findings.
