Right just had the MAFout and gave it a good clean. I used loctite 7063 superclean and a couple cotton buds. Same way I have done it a couple times before.

Only this time when I started the car to let it idle for 5 the EML came on. following a couple restarts the EML has stayed on. There has also been throttle issues. It's wooley below 2K and the it sounds like it is struggleing to keep running on deceleration.

Now the question is.

Have I buggered my MAF or is it possible the car has not initiated the relearn process for the clean MAFs new parameters?

You have either damaged it or have a loose connection or broken wires. If you're going to try cleaning a MAF sensor, at least use the right stuff - Isopropanol or Isopropyl alcohol. Anything else is going to leave deposits on the sensor element which will cause problems..

Dimethoxymethane
Ethanol, Denatured
Isoparaffinic Hydrocarbon

It's the same stuff I used last couple times. Would have thought all the ingredients there would evaporate quite cleanly.

Issues are starting to get a little worse, as it now has trouble hot starting with the maf connected.

Currently compiling a list of cars that use the same maf as the Marea for a scrappy treasure hunt. :slayer:

the cleaner you used is suitable, so it looks as though you have damaged it (or the wiring) at some point during the process. carefully check the connector is connected correctly.

the hot film is as delicate as glass so it is easily damaged, that is why it is safer to only spray the film rather than rub it with a cotton bud. i use both methods personally depending on the situation, but i accept that making any physical contact with the film is dangerous and must be done very carefully.
