do continuity and short to earth tests on the sensor wiring between sensor's connector and the ecu connnector.

Is a great chip. removes the limiter. As a result you can set off nicely without wheel spin boot it and at around 20mph when the turbo spools, the wheels say fook this and briefly try to spin up. Not uncontrolably but just a revolution or so more than they need to be doing.

The great part about this engine is the torque. It doesn't really matter what gear you are in so long as the turbo is spooling.

Ryan just took me out for a spin in the Marea 20vT, he can give it full beans now because he's clocked up a fair amount of miles.

All I can say is that it's bloody quick, took me by surprise for sure. Goes well and brakes excellently as well, the brakes are so good that it would send you through the windscreen if you weren't seat belted in.

Ryan, keep an eye out on that intercooler pipe. I read that you had to move it back a tad to mount the bumper. In the pic it looks kinked, would hate for the turbo to start sucking the pipe flat. Will loose lots of power.

Cars looks great by the way

i cant fit the air intake as there is a solid plastic part of air intake in the way and i've not found a decent place to get parts or someone who knows what they are talking about to resolve it.

i think the cam variator is working now but the injector light is still on going to get a diag run again.

its on the boost side its moved its self now and looks normal

Unfortunately i've broken the car

a clip seems to of fallen off that holds the gear selector cable to the gearbox so i can get reverse and some gears had a hunt in the garage but couldnt find a replacement clip so will have to get something ordered

Re: The First UK Marea Turbo? Build thread

wayyy overdue for an update, first my PC blew up and then i got ill for a few weeks being the reason i've not been updating, sorry!

the car went for its MOT on the 9th august, i wasnt expecting it to pass first time but i needed a list to see what needs fixing so here it is:

1. Nearside Front position lamp(s) not in good working order (not working)

2. Offside Front position lamp(s) not in good working order (not working)

3. Offside headlamp not working on dipped beam

4. Offside headlamp not working on full beam

5. Offside front (lights electrical fault) ab item not tested

6. Nearside front (lights electrical fault) ab item not tested

7. Offside track rod end ball joint has excessive play

8. (accessory [snooper] & mounting bracket) windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encrouching into the swept area by more than 40mm outside zone 'A'

9. Exhaust system has major leak of exhaust gases

10. Exhaust system has part of the system excessively deteriorated

11. Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

12. Horn does not function

13. Nearside windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid

14. Offside windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid

15. Nearside front tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm

16. anti-lock braking system warning lamp indicates an ABS fault

17. Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort

18. Rear brake pad less then 1.5mm thick

19. Parking brake efficiency below requirements

20. Nearside rear parking brake recording little or no effort

it looks alot but if you break it down i have 8 electrical faults which most of i had already fixed once, apparently not properly.

i ordered new rear disc's and pads which clears about another 4 from the list.

2 new front tyres, that clears 1 from the list

2 new track rod ends, thats another 1

already thats 14 from the list, i have fitted the track rod ends but still need to do the rear brakes.

i'm hoping i can repair the broken rear ABS sensor but i've not yet had a chance to look, they seem very difficult sensors to get hold of..... in fact so far no one has been able to supply me one!

the exhaust system has a split on one of the back boxes which i will have welded at a local powerflow centre hopfully.

well, i'm working on it but for the moment the car is sat back in the garage, i'm sure i'll get to drive it properly soon

i'm a little disappointed as i really wanted to be able to take her to Castle Combe this weekend and get on the track as i've not been out since april

suggestions welcome if anyone has experienced these issues before

Thanks,
Ry

Re: The First UK Marea Turbo? Build thread

yeah its a long list but nothing on it is serious or expensive.

the ABS sensor can usually be repaired by popping the top off (remove the bolt first) then insert some tinfoil into the 2 slits, then push the top back on carefully making sure the pins go into the slits filled with tinfoil. job done the sensor works again.

Re: The First UK Marea Turbo? Build thread

Cheers Jug i was going to try your little fix

Besbie - you'll just have to turbo the little sedi ....and then i'll find something bigger for the marea

Moving on, i'm only getting to spend about an hour each evening looking into the issues and tonight i managed to find the cause of my horn problem!

Someone (i dont think it was me!) must of span the steering wheel around alot while it wasnt connected to anything and broken this little device:-

only reason i say i dont think it was myself is i did it too the coupe to see what would happen oh well, these things happen aye....

i'm onto a breaker on ebay to see if he can supply me a replacement.

Ry
