Hi.
I hope someone can give me a hint.
Both my rear tires are excessive worn on the inner side.
As far as i can see the Camber angle isn't adjustable...
So i guess the only thing can cause this is worn trailingarms bearings.
I've tried to check it using a cowbar, but i can't find any excessive wear in the bearings.
Any clue anyone?

Cheers Michael

Does your rear suspension 'knock' when going over pot holes etc in the road?

If so, the chances are its the front rubber bushes on the rigid rear axle. They look fine at first glance, but they slip through the mounting and allow the rear axle to knock against the body of the car. When you look, if the arm of the axle is close (within a few mm) of the underbody of the car, then they have probably gone, and when you raise the car, you can see the front of the axle, wher th e bolt passes through the rubber mount 'floating' for lack of a better word.

Its easier to see on the nearside as the is a plastic cover over the offside.

hope this helps,.....DeanoELX

Hi DeanoELX.

Thanks for the reply!
No, no knocking sounds from the rear suspension.
I've checked all 4 rubber bushes on the rigid rear axle and they seem OK.
It also seem like there's no play in the trailing arm bearings.
I'm a bit lost in this case...

The only other things to check I guess are the rear axle itself is not broken or bent somehow, in this case you may need to take your car to a alignment specialist to have this confirmed. You are right that camber and castor are not adjustable.

The only other thing I can think of is wear in wheel barings or the stub axles.

Please note though, it is difficult to detect any movement in the trailing arm bushes with the springs and shocks still mounted.

Good luck with the problem,.......DeanoELX.

Hi Migaard,

I'd say rear bearing indeed. That is what fails most often around 150 thousand kms of mileage.

You may not hear any knocking or feel any play but you may notice that one or two of the rear wheels are "out of balance", either like that:

/...\ or like that: |...\

It may not show at first but try to measure thae angles using a true stick ant you'll see.

The bearings are replacable - you'll need one (or two) of these:

And the repair itself is pain in the neck (a whole day may not be enough if there's a lot of rust around) so call your mechanic.

Okay, thanks guys...
Sounds like it's going to take a weekend of work trying to replace these bearings or a day in the garage...
It sounds like a expensive garage job. :(
I haven't seen this part as spare in DK, and FIAT recommend to replace the complete trailing arm.
Where do i purchase this replacement kit?

Regards
Michael

Thanks a lot guys!

You are really a big help!(y)
I will try to replace the bearings myself.
I think it will be in the summer holidays were there's time enough...
It seem like it won't be a pice of a cake...

Cheers
Michael
