Hello all. I managed to run over a rock on friday, buckling my 17" stilo claw alloy :( After a trip to a local tyre place to diagnose the buckled wheel, the engine warning light came on as soon as I pulled out of the garage! The car seems to be in 'limp' mode ie. lack of power. I'm just wondering whether the crank sensor has been knocked out of alignment from running over the rock? Hopefully won't be too expensive as I need to fork out for a new wheel too, and spray it black like the rest! It's a Marea 155 20V with 54k on the clock. Any diagrams with the location of the sensor would be greatly appreciated also :)

Don't quote me but i think that the rock could have dislodged a wire from a sensor (or a wire pulled out:rolleyes:) etc. If it was me i would take it to a garage with the right diagnostic equipment how who stand a better chance of telling you, a fault code has hopefully been recorded about the red light.

The light can be caused by 1001 things, some quick and easy and others not so.

may seem expensive but will be cheaper in the long run (£35 to have it diagnosed).

My 1.4 bravo wouldn't start hot and was told it was a crank sensor, so i don't think that could be the problem.

cheers

Punto 75 SX '98 battery & electronic check problem i have this same problem and always backing light on
I have Punto 75 SX from '98. I was a great car till start showing two problems.
1. First and greatest is battery emptying problem. In fact, very often (aprox. 2-3 times/month) I can't start the engine because of empty battery. I bought new one, but the problem remains. The good thing is that when problem occur I swap the batteries and charging the empty on AC charger out of car for the next swap. Electrical charging on the car seems to work OK - on long trips battery remains full even on night driving under light and with car stereo on.
2. Second problem is electronic check light. Often (3-4 times/week) whet I try to start the engine electronic check light remains to light (red) and ignitions is weighty. In this situations engine fan switch on and blow. After few kilometers everything go back to normal - engine work normal, check light and fan switch off. Nothing changed after replacement of temperature sensor.

Any advise will be very helpful.
Thanks in advance

i doubt the crank sensor will be the cause. i agree that a diagnostic is the best option at this stage.

If it feels like its in limp home mode, its probably running on a safety map. Probably something like the lambda being loose or the map sensor is now dislodged.
