Hello all, hope you can help.

I got a 1.6 ELX Marea and since yesterday the oil warning light comes on at times. I checked the oil level and it was at min. I filled it up and the warning light is still on and off.
A bit of test drives and I figured out the light comes on when the clutch is disengaged (pedal pressed or gear in neutral) and the engine speedis below 1000rpm. That is, it is on with engine idling or when slowing down with the cluch pedal pressed.

Any idea what's the problem? I am driving to Italy in 5 days with this car!!!!

This could be worn main/big end bearings in the worst case, and a long high speed trip is not a good idea if that is the problem. The output from the oil pump is less at lower rpm, then engine speed tends to dip a little bit when the clutch is out, less flywheel mass. What RPM are you seeing?
Just running at the min level should not do any harm, how many miles has the car run? A change of oil and oil filter may fix it, what oil is in the car? how long since you changed them?

Thanks Renegade,

The car is a 2000 MY and it has done 105000 KM. The oil and filter were changed by a Fiat dealer 15000 KM ago. The oil is Selenia 20K.
I see the warning light come on as the engine speed goes below 1000rpm.

Cheers

The 1.6 is reckoned to be good for about 120K miles and you are inside service interval with the correct oil. I think if it was my car I would change the oil and filter myself and see if that cured the problem, if it doesn't then the engine will need attention, it may be bearings however it could be blocked oilways (flushing oil may work here) or a failing oil pump. Its also possible that the pressure switch has failed and it may be worth getting it tested.
