(G) 1998 1.8ELX clutch problem

Would be grateful for any advice. I have not long had my 1998 1.8ELX marea and she had been performing well up until a couple of hours ago. Driving along normally when suddenly could not get any gears. Pedal now going to the floor very easily with no resistance at all. I did not hear any strange or frightening noises at the time this happened. Gear lever moves around gears quite easily when stalled regardless of the clutch pedal being depressed or not, so started in 2nd gear to get home. Any ideas? With the luck Im having lately, I just know its going to cost a fortune.

Could be the slave cylinder, it sounds like the same thing I had, stopped at traffic lights and had to get a push onto the path...

Thanks for the quick reply. I do hope this is the case as I would be struggling to meet the cost of a new clutch.
