Hi everyone, I'm thinking about fitting one of those K&N filtercharger things to my Marea 2.0 20V saloon. Reason is that the air cleaner box is broken, the screws have seized and the garage broke one trying to get it off, thats their story. Would like to know before I try what are the benefits and what are the downsides to these filters. What happens to performance on a car with no other mods? If I drive normally I currently get between 30 and 33 mpg, could I still get that economy? The car has 99000 miles on the clock, will something go bang because of the extra power? All input appreciated.

you get more noise under acceleration, and more power and torque (nothing really noticable, 1-2%). mpg is not noticably affected, however most people report a loss of fuel economy. this is because you drive differently with the K&N fitted because you're trying to make the noise all the time. once the novelty wears off your mpg will return to normal. you shouldnt notice the difference.

I've got K+Ns on my MGB, they last forever and do give a bit more flow and have been proven to be as good at filtering as the OE kit.:) On that car you can't hear any extra intake noise! The ECU on the Fiat will pump a bit more fuel when you flow the xtra air, but as Jug says if you dont plant the throttle you will use no more fuel. Sport bikes are tuned for nice induction noise, a bit dangerous as by the time you have the "hit" you have lost your licence:eek:

Hi, Thanks for that. I am tempted by the K&N filter:idea:
