someone please help me!!!!i have a 1997 fiat marea hlx 2.0 20v,i havent had it that long and the battery went flat,so i charged it up,but when i put the key in the ignition the alarm will go off although i can still start it,the only way to turn alarm off is diconnect the battery,i only have the blue key to this car, when i press the button on the side it lights up red but doest do anything,the alarm and the remote locking didnt work before the battery went flat,but now i have the problem of the alarm wont turn off.

Right according to my manual. You can program the key
By getting in closing the doors but not locking them.
Press a pen into the button by the rear view mirror the
green led will flash keep pressing it and with the key close to the receiver press the
button on the key. the green led should stop flashing on become constant.
release the button on the key then mirror and that should be it programmed!

According to my manual, havent had to try it myself!

thanks for your quick reply,i have just tryed it the green light flashed then i pressed the button on the key and the green light went out,i then tryed the key in the ignition and the alarm went off again.

Not sure what else to try then.

there are 2 possible options (depending on what you have available).

if you have an alarm key you can switch the alarm off. the alarm key is a small round barrel key. if you remove the fusebox cover (in front of driver's right knee) there is a switch on the fusebox to turn off the alarm, using the alarm key. if you dont have an alarm key available you can chop the wires at the back of the switch

if you have a remote key code you can use that to reprogram the remote key, giving you working remote central locking and alarm. i wont go into the procedure for programming the remote (easy 2 minute job) but if you have a remote code i'll tell you mode. the following pic shows the key ring that will have the 4 digit remote code, if that keyring is missing you're stuck.

If all else fails, you can disconnect the alarm by using the barrel type alarm key key up to Jan 1998 model year, or disconnecting the alarm module itself(behind passenger side wheel arch cover (RHD car)).
