Cost of Marea 20v timing belt and tensioner change

Does anyone have an idea about how much a timing belt and tensioner change for a Marea 2.0 20v should cost?

Fiat quoted 1000 pounds,so I called around and I was quoted 350 pounds for labour by an independent dealer. After booking it in i was informed that because i wanted the tensioners changed as well this would mean that the engine would have to be removed Finally the full cost turned out to be 1041 pounds.

I always thought that for the timing belt to be replaced the engine would have to be pulled out but the mechanic insisted that if I didn't
request for the tensioners to be changed they would have been able to change the belt without pulling out the engine? Is this possible?

I would be grateful if anyone can enlighten me as to what the procedure is when it comes to replacing the timing belt.

Yes thats right Fiat advises engine down and out but with a bit of a wriggle the belts can be done, You must get the tensioner and idlers etc done because they fail and its "hello bank":) to get that fixed, make sure the guys who do it give you warranty on the work.and its normally £1400+vat for 72000 service and cambelt, idlers and tensioner

Hi and welcome to the forum .:D

I paid £1035 for a 72K service, cam belt/tensioners and rear shocks from a Fiat main dealer. The only time I would ever use one, (sorry kebab), but they dropped the engine out and then tried to charge me extra for putting anti-freeze in!?.

Some garages will drop the subframe and wiggle things about, if you really want to save a £100.
Dave :D

Size: 3.0 KBI paid £180 labour and £95 for a full timing belt kit, this was done by Alfatec in luton.
I thought this was a fantastic price!!!

However DONT GO THERE!!!!
They broke all of the covers and only replaced the belt they did not change the tensioners or rollers like they said they did!!
It runs fine at the moment but im worried about 10000 miles time

What should I do?????
Any suggestions please

If the garage said that they changed the tensioners but didn't then you can take them to the small claims court.
I wouldn't ask them to complete the work, just try for a refund.
