Hi
I am having Fiat Linea 1.4 Petrol 2010 run 55000 KM only. Its engine oil is getting exhauted very frequently. Every month I need to top up the engine oil. Can you please help on this.

HI

It is 16V and after almost 1000KM I am putting 3-4 Liter oil.

Why are you letting the oil drop below min on the dipstick? Min to max is only 1 litre, from memory full on dipstick to engine being starved of oil isn't as much as 3-4L when my 1.4 16v got very low on oil.

We need an exact oil consumption to distance tbh rather than wide ranges as there is a 25% difference in 3-4L which is a lot.

Anything up to 1L for 1500-3000miles isn't unreasonable IMO. Hope this helps.

Just a quick related question, fiat quote the amount of oil that can go missing in grams. What would be an acceptable amount in litres after say 3000 miles?

Well 3000miles in our 1.4 16v Stilo with 125k miles on the clock will use 800-1000ml which is perfectly acceptable in my book. It uses slightly more if always driven hard.

Likewise mums petrol Yaris will use 1L every 1500-2000miles approx, but that has got 175k miles on the clock and did practically run out oil once which won't have helped. But again that's acceptable IMO.

My grande uses a fair bit of oil, I replaced the oil with a better brand (shell helix ultra to be specific) and the problem isn't near enough as bad, not sure if it's just a coincidence however.
No idea what the oil was before though, probably tesco value if that even existed

Hi Rohitfiat,

so in 1000KM you need to add 3 litres of oil..maybe up to 4 litres,

you are having to add around 1 litre every 250 Km.. that is quite high consumption..,

if there are no obvious signs of the oi leaking onto the ground then it must be
engine wear that is letting oil pass through the cylinders and out through the exhaust,

if you remove the spark plugs does 1 plug look oily compared to the others..??, A GOOD plug should be a clear metal - to - sandy / biscuit colour, ;)

any blackness isn't good; :(
if it's a dry powder..( soot) that is over fuelling.
of it's black WET - it's oily= that is the cylinder where your oil is escaping,

have a look and let us know what you find,

Charlie

Hi Thanks for reply

At worksop they opened the engine and found as per below picture.lot of carbon is stored on piston, ther are sugessting to replace the pistons.
