Right, Im going to rig up an engine hoisting thing.

Its looking to be a set of pulleys using steel rope, aiming for a SWL of about 500kg. (A 2L Turbo Diesel Engine only weighs 200kg with a Gearbox!)

Know of any good places for lifting equipment? Specifically pulley blocks?

why not hire a proper hydraulic lift (folding crane) on wheels they are great, they don't cost a lot to buy either if you remove engines a lot. sealey have one on offer £152.69 inc vat model number sc10 lifts 1 ton

hmmm...wont be lifting often, maybe only twice, just want something to lift heavy stuff...

Found a chain block for £40 that has an SWL of 500kg, adequate for me, so I think i'll plump with that and get an engine lifing strop.
