I've discovered that my Punto (97) has a leaking fuel tank! I have read that the cinquecento had a problem with the tank and that the model was recalled in 99. Can anyone cast some light on this? Do they share the same type of tank?

Corrosion is an issue with some Puntos I've heard before. It doesn't normally get to the stage where it leaks though. That's gonna have to be changed.

You can't really repair a leaking fuel tank - metal ones can be welded but this is more trouble than it's worth as you have to remove it, drain all the petrol, wash it out with water, ensure all the petrol fumes have dispersed etc. Far easier and safer to get a new one. I'm surprised than Puntos have a metal tank though - I'd have thought that it'd be plastic as it's a fairly modern design.

eww petrol tank leaks suck had oen on my last car pretty bad made big mess on road as it started to eat tarmac away were it wasw parked before i noticed it. and dont you just hate paying for repaoirs when you dont get any performance gain out of it? lol

2001 Punto sporting in sprint blue with matching Mr Bump air freshner all together now mmmmmmm

Just weld it and hope it doesn't catch!

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AS IT WILL CAUSE YOU AND ANYONE WITHIN A FEW METRES SEVERE INJURIES and or DEATH.

Using welding equipment near to a source of flame is not big or clever.
