Righty then, my first car (Punto 1.2 16v HLX) that I bought from a Fiat Approved Dealer in Aug '05 is due for its MOT + Service in just under two weeks time. I phoned them up and booked it in for this Friday.

I explained to the woman that I'm about 1000 odd miles short of the next recommended mileage service and so she offered a Low Mileage service instead and I agreed to it. At the time, I thought that it meant it was a normal service but done earlier than recommended. However, since looking at -> https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=33957 I've discovered that they are in fact two different procedures.

Does this now mean that once I do reach the recommended service mileage (probably around a couple of months time) that I have to do the "full" service and fork out more money? If so, then is it better to phone up the Fiat Garage and ask them to change my booking to a MOT + Full service instead?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Right, had a look - when I had option of low mileage service on the Ulysse [it had done 19k miles at the time], I was told I then had to come back in at 24k miles [the recommended service interval] to have all the other stuff done on the car that wasn't done on the low mileage service! This would probably be 6 months later.

Therefore this would cost more, so decided to go for the full service straight off.

If ONLY a 1000 miles short, do the full service, IMO :)

Surprised they offered it to you when your only 1,000 miles from the service interval. We had a low mileage service because we were 12,000 miles short of the proper service which is about 10 months motoring.

To be honest after the 3 year warranty I won't be that fussed about sticking exactly to the service intervals.

I got a low miliage service for my cars first service, but I had only done 3,500 miles and when the cars 2 years old it will still only be on 7k miles so I could even qulify for it again, but I'll get the full service next time.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll get the booking changed for a full service instead.

Seeing as it's being done at a Fiat Approved Dealer, what kind of rough price should I be expecting for the MOT alone? (*not* including any repairs or anything that needs to be fixed in case it fails the MOT).

I know the service charge is going to vary quite wildly depending on what does and does not need to be done but would at least a few hundred be right?

It depends on which service you require as to the cost, but I think the 1.2 16v varies between £130 and £220 (more for the cambelt service).

I had the smart MOT'd last weekend and it was £48, which seems to be the going rate.

The council do an MOT for £28 around here to get service in so if i was you if your council do an MOT then just go for the service at FIAT and not the MOT and have the MOT done at the council, naturally have the Service work first at FIAT then if it Fails then you can blame FIAT for not doing the service right! :slayer:
