I'm thinking about getting a set of Colway retreads to use this winter. Anyone got experience with this brand? Winter retreads better than new (i.e. not retread) summer tyres?

Currently running:
195/55R15 Nankang Ultra Sport aka Field Finders(front)
195/50R15 Bridgestone Potenza RE720(rear)

Also anyone know which fiats use 4x98PCD 15" steel wheels? Can't fit 14" steels over the calipers :(

Also should I go for 195/65 or 185/55 - the normal size for non winter tyres is 195/50

As always your opinions and experience is warmly welcomed.

We use Colways on the grasser. I know Gray has HAD to use them on the road mini once or twice in really bad weather.....but only when the snow and ice has been really bad. And only at slow speeds.

That's probably not useful at all ! :p

Any M&S tyre is better in the cold than the best summer tyres available. Due to the cold the summer tyre compounds get so much harder that ther grip on the tyre is dramatically decreasing, which in turn means lesser handling capabilities and much longer braking distances in already fairly bad winter road conditions.

Also the profile is different to give better grip. They usually have fine cuts in the thread to act like claws for better grip on ice and snow. In places like Germany, Austria etc the are during the winter a legal requirement because of the much better cold weather capabilities having saved many lives.

Also the M&S tyres should not be used in summer for longer trips (unless they are all year off road tyres) because they might get too hot and desintegrate.
